You're right, lots of the worst prisons can be like that and I don't know how nice Nelson Mandela's time being wrongfully imprisoned was. Lots of movies and TV shows that involve prisons and jails will have horrible conditions but they're not meant to be like that. Hopefully in NZ it's a lot nicer than you think because they are still people that have made mistakes or bad choices.
